hello, I have a computer with opl3-chip (yamaha card so not a SB) and I haven't been able to make adlib track3r work on it.. anyone had it working? or is it just opl2 compliant? would like to start tracking in fm-synthesis and real hardware would be more fun so I might get enough motivation.. (synthesizing by mixing stuff in IT is fun enough)
edit: anyone rather recommend another tracker/mml compiler so I can play with my unused opl-chip? :) opl3 support seems scarse in general when I've read up.

have you tried the different builds/trackers listed here?

I remember I got some program running in my old SB 16 in a pentium 233
The sound was clear and awesome. but I never had the patience to get into that trackers.
btw. Dirty sega genesis FM rocks too

will try edlib, of what I've heard about it I wasn't encouraged to use it but if I can't get ad track3r to work I might use edlib, should give it a chance.
is there anyone who use adlib track3r 2? I'm reminded it's opl3 only so they should have worked on the compatability of such a serious tracker one would think.
is there an official forum? it's remarkable how few pages show up on google. is that how little the tracker is used? maybe the soundcard compatability is very narrow and that's why.
edit: I can't really find a single adlib or fm-synth or fm-tracking forum on the net :\ does anyone know one?
edit2: edlib won't give me sound either, suspecting my sounddriver.... how undramatic.

heh :-P sorry my post is ambiguous, what I should've said was I found where the problem lies but I haven't really found a solution yet. And the problem lies in my comp's windows me's dos emulation. I think so because windows' FM midi synth plays midi's in FM just fine. and in real dos which I though I didn't have adlib musicdisks and AT2 play fine.. (it seemed I didn't have dos first and then I read somewhere win me might not install real dos when installed in some versions but I found out it was there.. just no "exit to dos" and default boot shortcut didn't bring me into dos.)
so doesn't seem to lie in AT2 but in my win me's dos emulation (which I didn't believe at first since IT214 works fine hehe).
I hope I can get it working in dosprompt soon.
you're perfectly right though, if anyone has the same problem I hope I'll have solved this and could share the solution even though it's more related to my comp and its OS and opl in emulated dos as far as I suspect atm.
I'll first try reinstalling win me now that I can enter dos (no cd boot available) and see if it makes a difference.

guys, i've got a problem. recently i bought AWE64 but it seems FM synthesis is not working. anyway, i think FM synthesis could be just muted or somewhat.. so.. anyone - don't you have AWE64 DOS mixer?
i could fix this in win9x but im DOS guy only : ) thanks..

I only have a sb live and I guess they don't have opl do they? I thought awe32 was the last one to have an opl-chip but I'm not sure at all. does AT2 detect the opl3 chip at startup? (really brief screen of a few lines being checked off in dos text.. you can hit pause break to pause it right? (or maybe only in win dosprompt)).

nim yeah, they do. live has got just an emulation as you know : )
ATII finds both OPL2 and OPL3 chips.. anyway i had AWE64 before and its FM synsthesis worked.. i just need the mixer application (i tried some for sb16 but it didnt work..)

hey nula
you definetely need "ctcm" and "aweutil" apps in order to get AWE64 fm-synth to work... you should be able to download it
somewhere (let's try to google something ) if not so, just tell me, I should have got it somewhere in my backups
of oldie dos-stuff

You may need to uninstall any Windows drivers for the OPL chip to be able to work with it in DOS mode.
What Yamaha card do you have? YMF724 works perfectly. Can the OPL chip be used in DOS videogames, like Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Warcraft 2, etc.? Does Yamaha's FMMIDI program render any MIDI files or just returns an error code?

Consider installing Win98 instead. DOS is not hidden there. Or Win98SE, if the original version doesn't work on your computer.

I finally reinstalled win me, long story about harddrive going blank, screws getting ground down etc.. and I found the right driver from yamaha! so if anyone needs it I'd search for "portege soundcard driver" and not "opl3 SAx" since there are alot of places where the generic windows driver is uploaded which isn't good.
anyway, it's now working like a charm :-) I forgot about this thread in all this time though, thanks j7n for the reply.
reason I use winme is I have no cd for my portege so I need the modern USB-support of winme, so I activated dos with a patch. thanks to everyone who helped me.
(I made a song with AdT2 btw: nimfm02 the lead in later part uses 4OP fm-am, it's really fun, this tracker is great!, hope you get it working, nula)
I'm getting an awe 64 gold for my other comp so thanks for the info about that too.
