While putting up flyers for the International Chiptune Resistance show at The Tank this coming Saturday, Nullsleep and Bit Shifter were approached by two plainclothes police officers, arrested, handcuffed, informed that "a cleaner New York is a safer New York," and taken to the NYPD 9th Precinct police station for processing and a nice stay in the NYPD's luxurious high-security accommodations. Stripped of belts and shoelaces (to prevent suicide by hanging), the police missed Bit Shifter's camera/web-phone, allowing exploitation of some irresistible photo-op moments, as well as a unique opportunity to set Bit Shifter's AIM away message to "I'm in jail."

i'm with dereigner on this one ... having served time ... and there's no way in hell they'd let you have a camera in jail ...

Starpause: if you read the story it says that the police man missed Bit Shifter's cellphone when searching them.

Yeah -- actually it completely sucked, and it was a battle to contain my contempt for the cops and the situation. Nullsleep and I have our court date tomorrow, so for all we know, the presiding official will have seen one of the 2,000,000 blogs that hilariously picked up this "story," such as it was, and will decide that since we evidently had so much fun in jail that we should go right back there. We'll see what happens. I genuinely don't know how/why my cameraphone didn't get taken along with my bag, jacket, wallet, keys, change, shoelaces, and belt. The thing is not a small phone. But somehow it didn't get taken, so we used it to do what we could to salvage the horse-shit situation for humor value, and in so doing, scored what we felt was a minor victory.

that's really bad. I don't want to think we are living in a world ruled by countries with NAZI laws.
I hope you be ok.
Would be too bad that YOUNG PEOPLE were being PUNISHED for PROMOTING YOUNG CULTURE.
at least you just were trying to salvage that depressing situation.
is not your fault that someone else skipped your phone, you were not harming nobody with that!
you have not to pay for someone other's mistakes.
