How did you start making chiptunes?

Well I haven't been around the scene for too long (~four years) so I still remember clearly how I got into it.

I was playing keyboard at the time and I wanted to make music with my computer. I looked for a free program and found modplug tracker. Well, there were some cool example tunes in there and they instantly reminded me of music from cracktros I had seen long ago (let's just say our software dealer used to be CLASS) and I thought "this still around?". Of course it was, and I started looking for more, partly because of the cool sound, but also for the convenient file size. I could suddenly download 24 hours of cool music in just a few minutes LEGALLY! If I'd had a better connection at the time I'd probably downloaded some stupid techno mp3:s instead, and I'd be listening to trance and boring stuff like that today.

At the time I was still making crappy music with shitty samples, but I learned more and more and here I am today!

I'd like to hear the stories of some of you real old-school musicians.
