Im Requesting A Tutor/ or Help!
well hello ive been looking for places to talk about chiptunes for a while now ive been using the www.chiptune.com site but after a while you loose the chat history and its kinda hard to read but i love chiptunes
i want to make them i have the mind or what im saying i have all of these tunes in my head and want to get them on disk
i was hoping that you all could point me in the direction of getting the software needed to mix make exc.
where i could get the chip sounds and stuff im kinda really poor so i cant go get a gb but im good with computers so i shouldnt have a problem getting the sounds / software im sure you understand
but if you could help me with this then i promise youve got a reguler visitor / poster or what ever ill be around for a long time lol

There are a lot of way to make chiptune...
you could find a lot of tools for differents systems here:

don't hesitate to install a gameboy emulator to run for example the demo version of LSDJ http://littlesounddj.com (not so easy if you are a beginner)
A good start is also to create some music with a DOS tracker http://microkit.free.fr/?rep=./Dos/Trackers

hmm cool ill look into the site dont worry about the software stuff ive gotten 3d graphic design software that costs 3 grand for free i dont have a prob getting software but as for dos i deserve to be beaten sevearly i havent used dos in so long i really dont remember any of the promts but yes i did look at impulse tracker and couldnt get it to do a thing since i dont remember dos lol
any more up to date trackers that still meet the 16 bit standerd of chippys you know of

if you're totally new to making chiptunes I'd recommend trackers since you can load someone elses song in the tracker and look at the notes and learn from it. which is a much faster teacher than experimentation allthough both are vital :¨)
about getting chippy sounds (like samples) tracked modules include the samples used so you just steal from another module (mod, s3m, xm, it).
modplugtracker is a popular windows tracker (which can run windowed)
there are a few other windows trackers like mad tracker, skale tracker, milkytracker etc (clones of FT2) but MPT is most popular.
if you run win9x you can run dostrackers from windows (win9x has compatible dos prompt.. XP doesn't)
fasttracker2 is the best in the long run if you value creativity since it has a sample editor where you draw your own primitive samples (like squares, saws, triangles or whatever you can imagine (hehe)) but it's picky you need a compatible soundcard I think and you'd want win9x (if not real DOS).
if you're familiar to midi sequencers there's VST-plugins that emulate NES or C64-sound for instance.. but then it's up to your musical skill.. it's alot of fun to track and look at other musicians tunes and steal and copy and learn etc.

i'm with the others ... try out modplug, it runs easy in windows, a great learning tool since you can open other peoples files, and can be used for more than just chipping!
it's not as keyboard-shortcut friendly as fasttracker but it's a good place to start for all of those reasons.
